According to the Beidou Application Service System announced by the State Council’s Beidou Press Conference on December 27, 2019, the Beidou System will provide users with comprehensive positioning and navigation timingshort message communicationinternational search and rescueprecision single-point positioning and starbase enhancement and many other services. The Beidou system innovatively adopts the technology system of navigation and communication integration, and its diversified services are leading the development of satellite navigation in the world.

Recently, at the Fourteenth Congress of the United Nations International Committee on Global Satellite Navigation (ICG), we learned that other systems in the world are also actively developing diversified services. The third-generation GPS III satellite of the United States GPS broadcasts a fourth civilian signal (L1C) that can interoperate with other GNSS, providing higher accuracy and atomic clock services. Later, GPS IIIF will provide search and rescue services. In the future, the United States will also upgrade the 3 GEO satellites currently used by its star-based augmentation system WAAS, and modernize by providing dual-frequency multi-constellation services and enhanced integrity monitoring services.

GLONASS will provide 4 types of civil services, including basic open serviceshigh reliability and accuracy servicescarrier phase measurement and reference station-based navigation services, and high-precision precision single-point positioning (PPP) services. At the same time, GLONASS has a GNSS monitoring and performance evaluation system that independently monitors system performance and evaluates user-level performance.

The Galileo system will have four new services, including public service navigation information certificationhigh accuracy (targeted at 0.2 meters), commercial certification, and emergency alert (cooperation with Japan and India) services. In terms of search and rescue services, the International Search and Rescue Organization announced in December 2016 that Galileo has early search and rescue capabilities, and has now completed the return link function demonstration test, and will provide formal services in 2020.

In summary, the major satellite navigation system suppliers are actively committed to broadening the scope of satellite navigation services to better meet the diverse needs of users. The diversification of services has become the future development trend of global satellite navigation systems and a new big move in competition.
