The Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), is a non-manned aircraft operated with radio remote control equipment and self-contained program control devices. It involves sensor technology, communication technology, information processing technology, intelligent control technology and aerodynamic propulsion technology. It is a product of high technology content in the information age. The value of UAV is to form an aerial platform that, in conjunction with other components, expands the application and replaces humans to complete aerial operations.

After entering the 21st century, with the wide application of lightweight composite materials, the maturity of satellite positioning systems, the improvement of electronic and radio control technology, and the emergence of multi-rotor UAV architecture, the UAV industry has entered a stage of rapid development. Currently, drones have become an important tool for commercial, government, and consumer applications, and are widely used in construction, petroleum, agriculture, and utilities.

UAV is classified into military UAV and civilianUAV according to their purposes. Among them, military UAV includes reconnaissance UAV, attack UAV, decoys UAV and cargo UAV. Civilian UAV is mainly divided into consumer and professional UAV. Consumer UAV are mostly used in personal aerial photography, professional-grade drones are mostly used for agriculture and forestry plant protection, power inspection, surveying and mapping, security, logistics and so on. Civilian areas include agricultural plant protection, power inspection, police enforcement, geological exploration, environmental monitoring, forest fire prevention, and film and television aerial photography.

The use of UAV has made great progress with the development of automatic control technology, including satellite communication and other technologies to make data transmission over long distances. Today’s drones have become more and more automated.
